Here's our most detailed talk about The Coddling, at Politics & Prose in DC, via . tells the story as a biographical narrative, then I retell the story as a social science detective mystery; six threads:

Government officials should be banned from working for the organizations that they regulate for at least 10 years. The should disclose all financial holdings as well. In exchange, raise their salaries. That would be about 100x cheaper for the taxpayers than current system.

I spoke with Kara Miller, on WGBH/PRI , about The Coddling of the American Mind, and how campus culture has been influenced by changes in the broader political culture:

My response: Stanley is probably right about many arguments in the public square, or in comments sections on the internet. But if we can create communities with good discourse norms (e.g., universities, academic disciplines), then I think Mill is right.

Ch. 5 of The Coddling shows how "retraction is the new rebuttal." Here is a new case, with details of how a published math paper got "disappeared." The culture problem on campus damages scholarship, as well as education.

Political polarization is changing the landscape for brands. In marketing, as in elections, you can win by turning out your side, rather than by appealing to the mass-market middle. If Nike's move is successful, we can expect more politics in our shopping
