    update: Blue was located today, so all four young peregrines were spotted today. Falcon Watch and Rescue continues to do great work! Here's White earlier today after being released on the roof of the Rachel Carson State Office Building.

    DEP staff and volunteers will continue to monitor while observations of the ledge will also continue as the fledglings hopefully return to the ledge.

    At this point, three of the four fledglings are accounted for. Due to fog this morning, identifying the band color has been a challenge, but it appears that Blue's whereabouts are currently unknown.

    update: Yesterday, late afternoon, shortly after Red returned, another fledgling flew off the ledge. By this morning, the other three also flew off.

    Red remained there for most of the day. At 3:30 PM, Red took off flying towards Market St., landing on the top of Harrisburg University. Staying there only briefly, Red than again took flight and successfully landed back on the ledge.

    Then, mid-morning, Red attempted to return to the ledge. Though Red did not succeed in reaching the ledge, she regained herself and flew away from Market St. and landed on the top of an apartment building.

    Last night, one of the young falcons, the red-banded female, was blown off the ledge of the 15th floor of the Rachel Carson State Office Building, eventually landing on a window sill near the top of the Market Street Apartments, where she spent the night.

    Yellow, the male that was rescued Tuesday morning, returned to the ledge this morning. Updates will be provided as the day continues.

    This fledging was accidental and it appears that her flight feathers are not quite ready for sustained flight. Therefore, the volunteers and staff, as part of Falcon Watch and Rescue, are watching her at this critical moment. Ideally she comes down and we can rescue the bird.

    Last night at around 7:30 pm, Red was moving back and forth along the ledge winging when a gust of wind caught her and blew her off the ledge. Red managed to land near the top of the Market St. apartments and is still there.

    After moving from the Rachel Carson State Office Building’s roof yesterday, Yellow remains slightly above the 15th floor ledge. The adult male has provided food for Yellow. Based on how active the young falcons have been today, Red and White could fledge anytime!

    The yellow-banded male is the first fledgling! He flew off the ledge yesterday morning. Yellow was captured by Falcon Watch volunteers this morning and released on the roof of the Rachel Carson State Office Building in Harrisburg.

    Pennsylvania environmentalist Rachel Carson was born 111 years ago today. She drew attention to the dangers of DDT on raptors, and being able to reestablish peregrine falcons in the wild is a real testament to the legacy that she's left us.
