    A problem with politics is unrealistic expectations re timescales. As if anyone could reform the eurozone or create an EU-wide tax in 18 months. Obviously it should go without saying politicians need to be careful about promises too.

    The Government talks as though councils invest in property and other commercial ventures just for the thrill or to generate banker style bonuses for staff. They do it because they don't have enough money to deliver services and so need to find other sources of revenue.
