- i’ve been on both sides of this, multiple times. i am not proud. great reminder to keep putting in the work, every day.
- thanks Greg! and the second link should be brid.gy.
- huh. what am i looking at? mangled remains of a stagecoach? proto-Wright-Brothers experimental contraption? something else entirely?
- OH MY GOD YES IT ME
- I’d actually love to see more *new* backfeed implementations and services! they’re not easy to build, though, so we don’t have many. ownyourswarm, keyring importer…that may be it so far.
- i generally don’t want to encourage multiple bridgy instances popping up, with arbitrary old (possibly buggy) versions of the code, that look official and let anyone sign up and still point people to me to support. seems net negative for the community overall.

- And an especially big shout out to @metabase, the single most important building block we used! @sameer_alsakran @mazameli et al have built an incredible tool for exploring and understanding data, and a testament to building a product on open source. metabase.com

- Tom Wolfe ate the world and vomited lava. Dickens dined at a different table every hour of his life. Molière, tasting society, turned to pick up his scalpel, as did Pope and Shaw. Everywhere you look in the literary cosmos, the great ones are busy loving and hating. -@RayBradbury

- 7/ Those 5 words capture exactly what’s wrong with news. It’s all about the highly visible, extremely unusual, depressingly terrible, bizarrely short term, and simply momentous. Which means: it leaves out the slow, the structural, the hopeful, the long term, and the developing.

- On one hand, Stitch Fix’s recommendation model keeps sending me variations on the same brand of the same shirt and pants. On the other, their engineering blog is freaking great.
- It’s important to nurture new open source contributors, but that means accepting that 95% of them who show up, declaring their intent to contribute or to claim a bug, will not deliver or even appear to try. So it’s so rewarding those 5% of the time when they do. 💖
- Indeed, but there’s a huge difference between showing up with a technical question or a preliminary patch vs just showing up on a GitHub issue and saying only “Can I take this one?” when that’s your first appearance in the project, then never being seen again.

- I have been speaking all year about the Meyerovich study which says that the availability of open source libraries to achieve the task at hand is the primary reason people pick a programming language. It’s why npm’s gigantic library is fueling JavaScript’s ascent.
