Protecting your child of something in media (movies, TV, videos games, etc.) that won't traumatize them, based on their maturity, will make them have an urge to watch the thing you so desperately tried to stop them from doing when they get the chance. For example, my parents weren't very protective, so I watch whatever I'm interested in, not based on their rating. Over protected adults might watch anything that has an R rating purely to try to "spite" their parents, instead of the actual piece of media.
TL;DR over protected kids want to watch what they're restricted from more than kids who were allowed said things at a reasonable age
