So, i had a discussion with a friend who denies that climate change is man-made. I refered to the greenhouse effect, and he asked why it wouldnt work both ways. I was a litle bit baffled, because i couldnt awnser that question, and noticed that i dont actually know in detail how the greenhouse effect works.
So, if the gasses in the atmosphere stops the light to leave the atmosphere, shouldnt it also stop the light to get inside the atmosphere, and cancel itself out on the topic of global warmth?
In the way that the popularist extreme, generally right wing papers of the UK (The Sun, Mail and Star) are similar to the popularist extreme right wing news channels/shows of the USA (Fox News, Breitbart and Info Wars). And the globally respected, more neutral UK TV news/channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and even Sky UK) are like the globally respected, more neutral USA newspapers (Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal). The UK doesn't have clearly political popular news channels and from what I can find the USA doesn't have the same for newspapers.
I keep hearing people refer to some subreddits as echo chambers. I google searched it and all the words are just simply to complex for me to understand. Can someone simplify it for me?
PS: I’m not sure if this should be flaired as chemistry or others
Can someone please ELI5?
It may be obvious to snap a stick then to pull it since it is harder to rip a stick in half when pulled, but why is this? It also doesn't have to be a stick, any cylindrical shaped structure also behaves like this (from experience).
