Disagree—not a gift to Israel at all. It is a boone to those in many places opposed to a negotiated peace and a two-state solution. And it’s also a danger to the remaining and still somewhat tenuous cooperation that does exist between the Palestinians and Israel. twitter.com/dianabuttu/sta…

While there's a certain logic to each discreet step Admin is taking re: #Palestinians, much of which I have supported -- defunding @UNRWA, cutting US aid, moving #Israel embassy to #Jerusalem & #TaylorForce -- cumulative effect cannot but be viewed as unnecessarily punitive. 1/1

Totally disagree. Am familiar w/ the academic literature but my real world experience as mediator & diplomat, also working at the WH suggests trust and psychology is central to world leaders who are human. Wouldn’t Israel have related differently to Obama had there been trust?

You seem to be conflating 2 very different concepts- honest broker vs neutral 3rd party. Agree that neutrality can be offset by interests, leverage, etc. Based on much empirical data, I’d say honesty and trust are essential attributes for any effective 3rd party/mediator.
