maybe that wasn't exactly their thought process, after all IS is a cynic death cult. at the time they had lost Mosul and big parts of Raqqa province already but i wouldn't call it resignation

it is unlike any other thing we've seen, the situation in Aleppo or Damascus suburbs was somewhat different. just imagine ISIS prepared the graves for the entire remaining population of Raqqa in advance..

many of those who were trapped in the city and lost their lives in this battle were refugees from other parts of Syria

from the article: "of the bodies exhumed to date [..] some 80 per cent have been civilians [..] all of those buried here died in the final fight for Raqqa [..] many died in the crossfire. «Isis prevented anyone from getting out of the city, and the coalition bombed everything»"

if there is a Turkish military "observation base No 12" in Syria as claimed it has to be this one which is actually just at the border between Turkey and Syria (2 Nov 2018)

"fires across the Euphrates" reads more like they were complaining about artillery strikes - no that it matters for those on the receiving end

i've tweeted about these mass graves previously and has reported from Raqqa for just recently with images that show how these sites look from the ground

mass grave sites in Raqqa which were prepared by IS early in 2017 in advance to their loss of the province and the city to the SDF are visible on Google Earth

no sign of the ammunition either? more likely a 500lbs dud that's still buried in the ground
