Police now using tear gas on a group of Gilets Jaunes on Seine quays who wanted to leave march and head towards national assembly. Demo there banned this week after violence last Sat.

Please note also Russia Today, Sputnik and followers that police are making no attempt to "suppress" or "repress" peaceful protest. Three months into the GJ movement, peaceful demos are allowed to proceed peacefully.

Quite different mood from last week when police and banks etc were attacked from the beginning and police responded with tear gas, rubber bullets etc. Little sign of radical militias of far right or far left. Maybe later. But who controls or decides these things?

The main Gilets Jaunes demo has left the Champs Elysees and is marching towards the river. All calm so far. Maybe 2,000 people in all.

A couple of hundred Gilets Jaunes have occupied part of the Etoile, the mega roundadout around the Arc de Triomphe. Officially, they are banned from there since the Arc was vandalised on Dec.1. Police are not intervening so far. Also 500 GJ's ready to march from Champs Elysees.

Demos are also planned in Bordeaux, Toulouse, Marseille, Lyon, Nantes, Lille, Nice, Saint-Etienne, Bourg-en-Bresse, Thionville, Rouen, Pontivy, Alençon, Reims, and Boulogne-sur-Mer. Will the nationwide turnout (51,400 last week) be down again?

Act XIV of the Gilets Jaunes today, the 14th Saturday of protests, is difficult to predict. Some GJ groups call for peaceful marches, including one starting on the Champs Elysees. Others call for "insurrection", including an attempt to block the Etoile/Arc de Triomphe from 11.30.

You've watched selective videos, you mean. I have watched many demos from beginning to end. Thirteen weeks now. I know of no occasion on which a peaceful protest was broken up by police. But, yes, there have been examples of police brutality once violence is started by gjs.

Have frequently criticised french police overreactions/misuse of weapons. But you - like many others - fail to place this police violence in context of violence of a wing of the GJ's (including attacks on private homes etc). No peaceful demo has been suppressed.
