There is free research published by hard working journals. Researchers need to read and cite them more often and consider publishing with them. That is the only way to really break that rip-off system. Ironically, the power lies with us academics.

I think Kens point is just that we should be careful not to make claims of external validity if a study is not sufficiently powered (which again, depends heavily on design). Correct me if i misconstrued, .

Depends on the hypotheses being tested and the study design. For a purely comparative study, I’ve heard that 30 per cell is fine. For interviews, just a handful is good. For the experimental study i just finished though, i needed at least 212 to reasonably detect effects.

Agree completely! I should have specified that i meant quant-focused studies. For qual studies, at least sample size if there is observation involved. I believe there are effect size metrics for some qual outcomes too, but I’m no expert on those.
