The question of why dads must be in the picture point to the holistic development of the child and the father. The father must develop his nurturing skills, and his ability to care for a child, as well as to develop a bond.

In many Nordic countries both parents share leave. The mother gets 3 months, the father gets 6 months, and in the last two months, both parents are able to remain home with the newborn baby.
