    "Edge cases” have become (or always were) a reason to avoid dealing with difficult challenges in design. We rarely look at the effects of what we choose not design as closely as we look at what we choose to design. It’s important we do. We should classify edge cases with care.

    "edge case" is a term beloved by people in software who don't want to think beyond their immediate experience. there's nothing especially wrong with the metaphor, but its use warrants unpacking. /1
