    What an enormous loss to all of us who love stories well-told. Steve Golin was a unique talent – and he had the ability to encourage and inspire talented people all around him. An AFI Conservatory alumnus, Steve may be gone – but has left an indelible mark on the history of AFI.

    I was able to study at the Institute because I was awarded fellowships that paid for my entire tuition. One of them was a legacy of Mary Pickford, the Mary Pickford award for excellence in directing: this woman paved the way for a lot of us with her talent and grit.
