1:36 AM
Yo does anyone do IT services for their family like building websites ect?

1 hour later…
2:43 AM
@OvieAdese IT services, yes. Building websites? My family doesn't really need to build a website but I probably would if asked, although for something as big as building a website I would mostly charge at a discounted price.
@TinyGiant I like JS better than php for many reasons but I still like php a lot. I hate Java though. Java needs be put out of its own misery.

@JBis, How should I be moving with this business though. Should I have a type of street mentality like I'm pushing quality product? Because one of my family members gave me a $100 deposit, but I asked for $500 deposit and $500 on completion. Now I got a deal with him that I will show him the progress along the way and He will pay me along the way.

@OvieAdese I cant find now, but I remember a great question on interpersonal.stackexchange.com about this sorta thing. But IMO, business is business, the only thing being family gets them is a bit of trust and discounted pricing, anything other than that it like any other client. If you feel that they should be paying $500 deposit than you can politely tell them that they need to pay that money.
@OvieAdese Are you afraid they wont pay you?

I mean he gave me $100, and that was my doubt before he gave me a little cash so I'm not so worried anymore. I just wanted to know a little bit about how other devs handle their own business

@TinyGiant I also never got why people devalue php and js because they are "scripting languages". Like how does that make then any less...

Like trust goes two ways here he might be giving me this little cash because he don't think I could be capable of completing the assignment and I'm a bit worried about not getting paid after completion.

2:59 AM
@OvieAdese How long will the project take you days/weeks/months wise?

full completion I'd say 2 weeks.

@OvieAdese Do you think they are not going to think its "good enough" or just not gonna want to pay?

Nah none of those thoughts cross my mind because all he wants is a simple web scrapper to scrape airfares.
And to do a little payment process and fix a little html and css

I would suggest, going through with them everything they want and expect so there are no surprises and you dont do too much work nor have to go back and redo things. Since its not gonna take too long to do, I would make it and demo it, but not give it until they pay.
And showing progress isnt gonna be easy. Especially to a non dev. You can write the entire program, but without front end (html/css), they will just see its worth at $0.

yea thats true Thanks for the advice dawg I think I should demo it before I implement anything
thats smart and safe
That way I dont really lose and can resell it to another person that comes by

3:06 AM
I'd probably do $250 deposits, and have a verbal contract. "If I create X, with A B and C features, you pay me the $750. Thats final. If you have a problem, we can discuss after I get the $750."
@OvieAdese No problem. Glad I could help :)
That way you don't get a situation where they say "well I meant I wanted D". No you said A B and C and thats what we agreed on and what I did. If you want D, than give me the $750 and we can discuss.
Good luck!

3:29 AM
Hi guys gd mor'ng
Have some issues with datatable. When adding opaginate language option datatable is not working properly

3:42 AM
@OvieAdese My advice: never do business like that with family.

@TinyGiant Why not?

@TinyGiant Lol, I know where your comming from because if things go wrong their and it can ruin your relationship with them, but at the same time if everything works out every one is happy and it could progress my business.
Its 50 50 chance

4:05 AM
anyone else here a hobbyist photographer? Kinda cool when the pictures on a site aren't stock, but homemade.

Rob
@OvieAdese Hopefully it's a bit better than 50/50, because the negative far outweighs the benefit ;)

possibility vs probability

4:21 AM
Can I send a DM on here?

Rob
4:32 AM
Nope. Closest you'll get is inviting them to a new chat room, but they're still public

5:17 AM
@demonhunter24 You can make rooms private but mods can still see
Its kinda hard to take design advice from a shity deigned website...

Mods see everything...

adaptive images are too difficult to implement tbh

Rob
@JBis Only moderators can make private rooms. You might be referring to gallery rooms, but those are public as well

@Rob yeah thats right, my bad
how about going into their profile and sending them a decrypt/encrypt js script and having them use it in public chat (instead of just emailing them what you want to say directly because thats boring)

5:42 AM
I swear, a mobile phone just cached my JavaScript. Is that even a thing, or am I going crazy?

thats a thing

Is there a way to un-thing-ify it?

uncache it? Clear the cache.

I know about version control for images. Does it work the same for scripts?

Q: When does browser automatically clear cache of external JavaScript file?

Elijah ManorI have a JavaScript resource that has the possibility of being edited at any time. Once it is edited I would want it to be propagated to the user's browser relatively quickly (like maybe 15 minutes or so), however, the frequency of this resource being editing is few and far between (maybe 2 a mon...

tl;dr just at a &time= to it

5:44 AM
But it's an internal file

internal like <script>? It shouldn't cache it then I dont think.

Yeah, I thought I was going insane

Q: Do browsers cache inline Javascript, and if so, how to force a reload?

GregWe recently moved to jQuery 1.6 and ran into the attr() versus prop() back-compat issue. During the first few hours after the change was deployed everything was fine, then it started breaking for people. We identified the problem pretty quickly and updated the offending JS, which was inline. No ...

<script v=2>?

> The answer to both your questions is no. Unless the whole page is being cached. A browser can't cache part of a file, since it would have to download it to know which parts it had cached and by that time it's downloaded them all anyways. It makes no sense :)
@JonathonPhilipChambers just send headers
and what browser?

5:47 AM
Safari on an iPhone 4

iOS version? I haven't seen that in recent at least. If I am not mistaken the max on their is iOS 7.

It says 10.3.3 but I don't know if that's the software or the hardware
Yup, definitely 10.3.3

that aint possible....

iOS 10.3.3
This damn phone defies what is possible way too often

Are you sure its iPhone 4?

5:50 AM
But when I go to "software update" it says "iOS 10.3.3 Your software is up-to-date"

yeah thats correct so phone must not be an iPhone 4
or its HEAVILY jailbroken

Ah, my bad, 5c
not a 4

Yep :)
Either way I dont think it caches inline js

I don't know what to say. I made a change, hit refresh on the phone, the change remained the same. I duplicated the page by a different name, it worked. I navigated back to the original, it was the same.
The only thing that fixed it was deleting all website data
I was using FileZilla

comment out the script, does that change anything?
Oh if you have a Mac you can actually open the dev console on your phone its kinda cool

5:54 AM
Yeah, our phones are the only Macs in the house

?

Everything else we have are Windows machines

well then your second best bet is
window.onerror = function(msg, url, linenumber) {
    alert('Error message: '+msg+'\nURL: '+url+'\nLine Number: '+linenumber);
    return true;
}
Check if there are any errors on the phone that may cause unexpected results

I gotta remember that one
I'll copy that

:) Used it debug a tv browser once

5:57 AM
Yeah, I can see how that would be useful
I'll have to look more into this later, but I swear, inline javascript being cached is the only logical explanation of what I witnessed
If that's impossible, then I have no idea what the heck I just saw

just a one time thing? or still happening?

Wait... there is another explanation
It could have been a fatal error. A fatal error that disappeared when I cleared the cache
Fatal errors always look like outdated code, because whatever it is I'm looking at at the time no longer works

the other thing is more of the "entire page is being cached" many devices including iOS Safari cache the page. If you reload once it will load the same page from cache but the second reload will actually reload.

Yeah, but I hit refresh, and I saw it go through the motions of loading again

yes that will still happen
did it load surprisingly quick?
like really really fast? (I know thats a very accurate unit of measurement)

6:02 AM
Well, there is some code that runs as soon as the page is loaded, and that didn't execute for a few seconds after the refresh

3 mins ago, by JBis
just a one time thing? or still happening?

I also see the background image "blink"
I'm just hitting refresh now. So it's going from working page to the same working page
But before, it would go from older version to the same older version
or fatal error to the same fatal error. I can't really tell

odd

Maybe the css file was making it crash?

css doesn't have that much power
just make your stuff look weird

6:05 AM
It's annoying because it's working now, so it's gonna be really hard to replicate the error
Anyway, thanks for your time. I've got other jobs to do. So I'll just leave this one alone for now.

np :)

6:25 AM
Is there a pure DOM way to implement pristine / dirty checking purely via dom?

Hello guys, how can i transpose rows and columns? jsfiddle.net/johnvaldetine/Lkyxegnf/23
I want to give my datas with columns.
In my example, data is shown in rows.

@OvieAdese Yeah, that. I've done business with family and friends before, and more often than not I regretted it.

7:11 AM
@JonathonPhilipChambers if css makes your browser crash, then you've found a serious browser bug
it's not supposed to, not even if the contents of the css file were the words to my alma mater in high school

help me!
i want to make sample map, such as photo map
