The Google Assistant on phones, now in Spanish and Italian

Google Assistant is already available on phones in a number of languages around the world and now we’re adding a few new ones to the roster—Spanish in the U.S., Mexico and Spain as well as Italian in Italy. So now you can say “Ok Google” and ask the Assistant to play your favorite song, tell you about the weather, navigate home and more. Or try something fun and say “¿Ok Google, sabes nadar?”

Our goal is for the Assistant to be available to help you get things done, no matter what language you speak, what device you’re using or what question you’re asking. Today’s update is another step in that direction, as these new languages join English in Australia, Canada, U.S. and U.K.; Portuguese in Brazil; French in Canada and France; German in Germany; Japanese in Japan; and Korean in Korea. These new languages will soon automatically be available on eligible Android phones running Android 6.0 or higher with Google Play Services, and later in the year, they’ll also be available on iPhones.
Ci sentiamo presto.

Ask your Google Assistant on Google Home/Mini/Max to play your favorite shows on HBO NOW, CBS All Access, The CW

HBO Now and CBS All Access have both landed on Google Home in the past couple of months, adding to the already available Netflix support. Both of those require that you manually link your accounts to get things working, but The CW doesn’t require an account at all.

To cast content from The CW, simply ask Assistant on your phone or Google Home to play a specific show from the network. That might include “Arrow,” “The Flash,” or others like “Riverdale.”

Play some of your favorite shows and movies from subscription services like HBO NOW, CBS All Access and The CW. You can also cast from eligible Android phones and iPhones. Just start by saying, “Ok Google” or “Hey Google”:

- "Watch Curb Your Enthusiasm"
- “Play Star Trek: Discovery”
- “Turn the volume down”
- “Go back 30 seconds”
- “Play Riverdale”

So the next time your hands are full with popcorn, go ahead and forget the remote. Just say, “Hey Google,” sit back and enjoy.

The Google Assistant is probably the best personal assistant available and it was improved on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, allowing you to do things like change settings or initiate a conversation with Google support. Now, an Android Police reader has discovered a new and somewhat cool feature that the Assistant has learned.

According to the tipster, who has a Pixel 2 XL running the latest Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview, the Google Assistant was able to start a troubleshooting process once the tipster asked why his phone wasn't charging. Android Police founder, Artem Russakovskii, was able to reproduce the feature. Essentially, the Assistant was able to run a battery health check and look for any apps that may be causing a drainage issue. Once the Assistant exhausted all of its troubleshooting options, it then offered to contact Google support through phone or chat. Unfortunately, it is still a little buggy. When given the option to contact Google support through phone or chat and you actually select an option, the Assistant replies back "Sorry, I don't understand."

Still, it's pretty cool the Assistant has learned some troubleshooting features as it could come in pretty handy. Android Police also states that the Assistant can run a diagnostic on the camera and Bluetooth connectivity! Keep in mind, the feature may be exclusive to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, as it did not work on the original Pixel or other Android devices. It also appears that Google is still testing out the feature.
