The discovery of this fact birthed a love of Andalusia and eventually the decision to study Spanish and Arabic at university. I am continuously floored that - given how much Islamophobia there is - why connections between Islam and Europe aren't taught more in schools

This is so so good (and thanks to @ayshabkhan for including it in her newsletter) about why we need to relearn Western history. I still remember when I found out that the Muslims conquered Spain - it was just never taught at school, I found it through my own reading
