I think our defence is going to let us down tremendously this season. Mustafi and Sokratis are errors waiting to happen, whilst our full-backs aren't particularly defensively minded and are prone to leaving quite a bit of space behind them, inviting pressure from both flanks of the opposition. The way in which Sterling, Mendy, Mahrez, and Walker exploited that against us in the first half particularly was evident.
The only reason last year worked somewhat is because we played with three centre-backs, which allowed for additional cover.
Against City, we didn't have a protector in the midfield, which compounded the difficulties with our defence. We allowed City to play on the edge of our box, with both Guendouzi and Xhaka failing to close key players down - a huge reason why Sterling scored in the first instance. I hope Torreira can be the answer to that, but I still feel our defence is quite an abomination. The way Mustafi allowed Sterling to dance around him several times, and the way in which Maitland-Niles and Bellerin couldn't handle any attacking runs from their full-backs was disastrous. Of course, this was City, and we have seen worse, but in my opinion, our defence does not inspire confidence at all.
”Unai Emery on Friday named the five Arsenal players he has appointed as captains for this season.” Is this sentence alright? I’m not a native English speaker, but this sounds a bit shit.
It's fine.
(Allegedly)
i don't buy it.. i don't buy this because emery himself said he hasn't picked the First XI and doesn't the club usually announce who the captain is/captains are? & i'm sure Emery knows Leno is better with the ball..
Maybe it's a smokescreen to confuse city.. Emery is a master tactician boys
Edit:Nvm we starting with cech ffs
Cech had a very impressive pre-season, to be fair.
Lol @ /u/BenjaniMaples removing the original thread and then reuploading it himself so he can get the karma.
Those moderating powers going to his head.
It is well known that when posting a starting XI post, you include the starting XI in the body of the title. If the previous post was removed, that is the most likely reason why...
I know there were users on here that wanted a kind of down period where text posts after games, especially losses, were disabled for a certain amount of time to avoid a flood of rant posts. Not that I really have an opinion on it, just curious to hear if you guys have considered it?
Thanks for all the work you guys have done. especially this summer.
This has been in effect for over a season; most self-posts made after match threads belong in the post-match thread, and are directed accordingly.
CAS is an arbitration panel with no actual judicial power. If UEFA wanted they obviously could petition a proper court.
Arbitral awards arguably have more widespread international enforcement than most domestic judicial decisions would. If both parties agreed to settle disputes through arbitration (both final and without appeal subject to specific circumstances), which I am most certain they did due to standard arbitration clauses, this is final and /u/byhoskyy is right.
The questions would presumably be something like:
Leave with no deal
Leave with EEA+CU
Remain
Remain, join schengen, and adopt the euro
Such a question cannot possibly be put to the system of direct democracy in the form of a referendum.
This is why the outcome of the Gina Miller case is particularly hilarious. So many Remainers were crowing about it, seeing it as an important step towards stopping Brexit entirely. But what she really achieved was ensuring that Article 50 was invoked on a solid legal basis. You can only imagine the utter chaos that would would have unfolded if such a court case was won after the government invoked Article 50 without parliamentary approval.
All of us who voted to leave the EU should be grateful to Gina Miller. She might not have intended to do it, but she has probably done more than anyone else to ensure that Brexit is legally watertight.
This is actually quite an interesting insight. Are there any publications on the case with this as its conclusion?
San Andreas memories.
This is the information I come to the sub-Reddit for.
Where's Malcolm Tucker when you need him?
Well no the ECJ is a completely different entity to the European Court of Human Rights...
The EU and the ECHR are completely different. The EU and ECJ have direct effect with its legislation and decisions, the ECtHR can only issue declarations of incompatibility which aren't binding.
The European Court of Human Rights and the CJEU don't necessarily overlap, and are complete different entities, but they influence one another, and are in many ways harmonised. This is especially so when it comes to CJEU decisions on general principles of EU law and fundamental rights.
The vilification of /u/AfricanRain on this sub-Reddit is absurd, and it ought to stop. This is a post to provide transparency on the matter, in an effort to reach that end.
1) AfricanRain had no influence regarding the selection of the new moderators. This post, despite it's place in the history books of /r/Gunners, brought accusations that AfricanRain leveraged his position as moderator to ensure those he favoured would become moderator. In the first instance, this is untrue. In the second instance - and I reiterate from here - even if it were true, this is an internet forum without nomination guidelines. An applicant selected to become moderator because they are favourable to another is not corruption, it's merely a factor in the decision making process, as they're usually favoured for a reason that would indicate they would be a good moderator.
2) In my view, and in those of the moderator team, AfricanRain is not an incompetent moderator. He is the most active moderator on the team, and though this does not necessarily correlate to competence, it indicates that AfricanRain is moderating effectively. To support this claim, since April 13th of this year, he has removed 1894 posts and comments. Though all cannot be scrutinised, here are the posts removed by AfricanRain in the past 24 hours. All of these posts break the rules in some way: re-posts, posts meant for the discussion thread, or posts blatantly breaking the rules.
3) AfricanRain does not consistently ban users. In the past two months, he has banned six individuals (some of which are only temporary bans), whilst other moderators have banned significantly more numerically. In scrutinising the reason for the bans, the permanent bans have been listed as: homophobia; racism; and ban-evasion. They all check out.
4) AfricanRain does not abuse his power as a moderator. Outside of being a moderator, he is another user with his own views. This thread consisted of comments, both by AfricanRain and by others, that broke the no politics rule. All users were warned. This is, however, not an abuse of power. There is a difference between acting in the capacity of a moderator, and acting in the capacity of a user. He was warned in the same way any other user has been.
With this post, all future /u/AfricanRain posts will be deleted and removed by the moderators. If you have a genuine report, please send it personally to the moderators in a constructive form.
Just a lurker who loves Arsenal, but I'm chiming in to say #4 is not good rationale.
As a moderator, you don't get to swap back and forth between moderator and user; this isn't a good excuse. You can't just say, "I'm putting on my User hat now and I'm going to act like a child" and then use this as a defense for your actions.
As a moderator, you should be held to higher standards when monitoring and engaging with other users. You don't haven't luxury of saying offensive things; you must take the higher road, disengage, and act appropriately when confronted with offensive material. You don't get to be Sheriff and uphold the law on duty, but then take off your badge and silly hat and get into bar brawls off duty without repercussion.
To think it's OK to switch back and forth between moderator and user "status" dilutes and disintegrates the faith users have here that moderators will be impartial and fair.
You want to wallow in the mud with the rest of us sometimes, then relinquish the moderator status. Otherwise, act like an adult.
Thank you for your input. I agree with what you have to say, but #4 is not about that exactly - it's about AfricanRain not abusing his powers; there is a clear division between voicing your opinion as a user, and using your moderator privileges in a way to promote your opinion. AfricanRain, contrary to accusation, does not take part in the latter.
AfricanRain, like the other users, was cautioned for his contribution to that thread.
I think people don't like him because of his attitude in here, not his incompetence as a mod.
Anyway, can you guys fix the faces glitching in the sidebar? It looks ridiculous lol.
It's being worked on.

/u/cant_trick_the_pick, /u/africanrain, /u/dave_felix, /u/DaGetz, /u/Des_Esseintes_, /u/Deadlyft_Chaps - There is a strict no politics rule. This is an official warning before issuing tempbans.
What happened to new mods to cover early morning in the UK?
You can't expect it to be constant moderation.
Theres 16 moderators, not including bots, I don't think its unfair to think they've got the entire day covered, especially since they got two more specifically to fill the gaps vanadiumdioxide has been exploiting.
Be that as it may, constant supervision is a flag ideal of which, unfortunately, cannot be achieved. Though, it has become better.
AfricanRain has literally banned 4 users in 2 months.
Can someone refresh my memory, what is the story with Kolo and being a car salesman?
Legend has it that he had an affair whilst pretending to be a car salesman. She found out and snapped this revolutionary photo.
We'd probably lose to Colombia so atleast let's beat Japan and have an exciting match against Brazil or Mexico.
We'd probably lose against Japan too. Remember Iceland?
According to Google she's a Spurs fan so I guess it's just self deprecating humour.
As is the British thing to do.
EFG's been a mod here for 10 years. The last six we've grown exponentially. Even if the sub was heading down hill, how can a community driven platform with over 90,000 users be attributable to a sole - and may I add uninterventionalist - user?
And I can also just say that if you talk to me like a rational person and don’t fucking scream at me and abuse me and say stupid shit like how I’m killing the sub I’ll respond. Like I’m gonna be more lenient about posts now because of the very few people who know how to have a conversation.
shut up and stop killing the sub-reddit
