HoloStudio

HoloStudio uses OneDrive to periodically synchronize your saved creations. HoloStudio also uses OneDrive to import and export 3D models and images. Here are the folders in OneDrive where HoloStudio stores your files:

• Saved creations are placed in 3D Objects/HoloStudio/
• Imported files will be imported from 3D Objects/HoloStudio/Imports/
• Exported files will be exported to 3D Objects/HoloStudio/Exports/

HoloStudio can export your creations to OneDrive so you have a copy, 3D Builder for 3D printing, or Sketchfab.com to share on the web. Here are some details on the three options for exporting your creations:

• OneDrive
• Your creations are exported to 3D Objects/HoloStudio/Exports/
• Note: while your creations will export with the model’s colors, it will not export images or textures
• 3D Builder
• Ensure that 3D Builder is installed on your device so you can 3D print your creations. It can be found in the Windows Store for Microsoft HoloLens.
• Sketchfab.com
• When you export to Sketchfab.com, a Sketchfab account will be automatically created for you using the Microsoft account you’re signed into on HoloLens. You can continue to use your Microsoft account to log into Sketchfab.com to view and share your creations online
• Note: while your creations will export with the model’s colors, it will not export images or textures

You can import 3D models made outside of HoloStudio and use them like regular pieces in your creations. You can also import 2D images to use as reference while you build.

Here are the guidelines to help you select the best 3D file format, size, and contents:

• File Format - FBX files are the only supported file format
• File Size - files up to 25MB in size can be imported
• Model Complexity - files containing up to 30,000 vertices can be imported
• Geometry Types - only polygonal models are supported
• Binary & ASCII files - while both file types are supported, Binary files are recommended as they load more quickly and reliably than ASCII files
• Texture Maps
• Texture Maps must be in the same folder as your 3D model file
• Textures can be either PNG or JPG files
• Only one texture per model will be imported
• Only one UV per vertex will be imported
• Textures will be scaled down to 256x256 upon import

File Size Is Too Large
3D models you wish to import can be a maximum of 25 megabytes. Files over this size will not import. Reducing a file's contents and/or complexity will reduce its size on disk.

File Contents Are Too Complex
3D model files you wish to import can contain a maximum of 30,000 vertices. 3D models that are more complex will not import. Open your model in another application to reduce its complexity.

Missing Texture
While HoloStudio can import models with missing textures, ensure your 3D model and texture are in the same folder on OneDrive and that your 3D model references the correct texture

Out Of Space
Your HoloLens has run out of storage space. Remove files to create more storage space.

Corrupted File
Ensure that your 3D models were correctly saved as FBX files and that your images and textures were saved as PNG or JPG files. You can open your files on another device to verify they were saved to OneDrive correctly.

File Does Not Exist
Open OneDrive on another device to make sure you did not move or delete the file while OneDrive was actively syncing on your HoloLens

In HoloStudio, you can capture mixed reality photos, videos, and animated GIFs. Once you take a picture, record a video, or export a GIF, you can access the file via the following process:

• Sync to OneDrive
• Launch the Photos app on HoloLens. You should see a thumbnail of your capture in your collection.
• On the left, select Settings > Backup & Sync > On
• On the left, select Sync.
• Viewing animated GIFs
• Visit OneDrive.com in your web browser, and navigate to Pictures > Camera Roll
• Note: On your PC, you can download your animated GIF and view it later in a web browser or the Photos app.

Create an animated GIF:

1. Use the Take Picture tool.
2. Tap and hold, and move your hand upward to select Stop Motion. You can also say "Stop motion."
3. To add a frame, select Capture or say "Capture," then air tap to capture the frame.
4. Edit your creation to set up the next frame of your GIF.
5. Repeat step 3 to capture another frame.

   Tip: Line up your gaze with the blue dots if you want your frames to be taken from the same angle.

6. To play your GIF, air tap the preview.
7. To erase a frame, air tap "Remove".
8. If you air tap the ellipses (…), you can export your GIF to your Camera Roll, share with your friends, change GIF speed, or clear all your frames to start over.

After you capture a frame of your GIF, a square of blue dots appears to help you line up your next capture so it’s from the same position and angle. Use your gaze to align your square of blue dots to the static blue dots. This is just for reference, and you do not have to align the dots to capture a frame.

The ellipses button (…) on the Stop Motion window displays more actions you can take:

• Export - Save your GIF to your Camera Roll
• Share - Share your GIF online
• Clear - Delete all the frames of your GIF
• Speed - Set FPS (frames per second) of your GIF by using your air tap to rotate through three speeds: 3, 6, and 15

To return to the first page of buttons, air tap the ellipses (…) again.

Air tap the Pin icon to unpin the window. Use your gaze to move the window and then air tap anywhere to place it.

Air tap the X in the top right of the Stop Motion window. To reopen it, say "Stop Motion" or select the Take Picture tool again.

No, your GIF frames persist across sessions.

The resolution of each frame is fixed at 640x360. You can set FPS by selecting the ellipses button (…) in the Stop Motion window, and selecting Speed.

While you can 3D print anything you make in HoloStudio, the Printables pack has pieces specifically designed to be customized and 3D printed.
