ok but oceans 8 was definitely one of the best films to come out this year... fuck mixed reviews. a team of intelligent, diverse women coming together to (successfully) steal a bunch of diamonds and fuck men over? groundbreaking. THAT cast? unforgettable. i need 5 more sequels.

bandersnatch has taught me so much about myself...like, i had the hardest time of my LIFE choosing between sugar puffs or frosties, but telling a guy to jump off a building so i wouldn't die and have to restart the whole thing again? not a DROP of hesitation. much to think about.

those are ALL things abusive parents do to their kids in the real world. tangled is about a child of abuse learning what real love is. it's about a child of abuse breaking free and taking control of her life. the thematics behind that movie are beautiful and so often overlooked.

she doesn't let rapunzel leave the tower and lead her own life. she mocks rapunzel’s dreams & tries to destroy all her attempts at happiness. she treats rapunzel as if she's a possession and nothing more. at the end of the movie, she even chains rapunzel so she won't leave again.

mother gothel bashes rapunzel, mocks her physical appearance and tears down her self-confidence instead of building it. that's how real life abusive parents traumatize their children for life and make them incapable of perceiving their own self worth.

the mother in tangled is disney's scariest villain. she masks her villany in the guise of love. she belittles & gaslights. her "magic power" is an arsenal of emotional abuse made to keep rapunzel afraid of the world and herself. that shits scary as fuck, and not just to kids.
