When #JacobZuma led a delegation to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly in September, his briefings followed the trend of the polls that showed it would be an easy walk to the White House for Hillary #Clinton. So when the Republican presidential candidate at the time made a request to meet with Zuma, in New York, an appointment was declined.

There was concurrence among officials in the Presidency and the Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) that the appointment with #Trump did not seem necessary. There was also concern that a meeting with Trump might impact negatively on #SouthAfrica’s relationship with the incoming Clinton administration.
