Turkish President #RecepTayyipErdogan wrapped up a three-day trip to Germany on Saturday (Sept 29) saying the controversial visit had been 'extremely successful.' According to Erdogan, #Turkey and #Germany 'need to focus on joint interests, leaving aside some recent differences of opinion.' Erdogan traveled Saturday to the western city of Cologne for the final leg of his visit, where he inaugurated one of Europe's biggest mosques. The new mosque is run by DITIB, a Turkish-Germanic Islamic organization funded by Ankara.

Hagia Sophia
Another view of the inside of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. There are no cats in this shot :) . It shows just how high that dome is, considering it is over 1500 years old, it is amazing! This is taken from the balcony level. There is even graffiti carved in the the railing by a Viking in Norse Runes. The scaffolding was a pain, but they do need to keep the maintenance up!

(edit) I am adding this info here in the post, which was my response to comments that this place had been desecrated as a church to make it a Mosque.
"The angels are still there ( you can see one in this image) & so are all the Mosaics of Jesus & Mary etc. If you zoom in on this photo you can see the mosaic of Jesus in heaven is still above the East end of the building. On the contrary the Islamic Calligraphy that you see is NOT on the walls to cover anything but, they are on wooden panels that are actually hung on the walls, and don't "cover" anything, and have always been like that... I have a photo of the mosaic of the building and the city being dedicated to the virgin mary (who the Muslims call maryam)
Is it not a good thing that the later Mosques where modelled after this magnificent building,BTW? How is that sad? (you do know that Muslims revere Jesus as a great prophet of god too, don't you? Desecrating things related to him would be evil, as I understand it
(note I am not Muslim or Christian, but I am just pointing out what i know, because I ALWAYS take the time to do a little research into the places & things I photograph.) I like to be informed, and never from one source only :) "

Turkish President #RecepTayyipErdogan met with German Chancellor #AngelaMerkel on Saturday (Sept 29) at a working breakfast to discuss bilateral and international issues. At the meeting, which lasted more than two and a half hours, the leaders also reviewed cooperation in addressing the refuge crisis, and exchanged views on the situation in Syria.
Bilateral issues, including cooperation in fight against terrorism, were the other agenda items. #Erdogan was accompanied by Treasury and Finance Minister Berat Albayrak, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, and Technology and Industry Minister Mustafa Varank.
