The "mission creep" is more worrisome than anything else. "Planning terrorism" becomes "speaking out against the state's 'foundation'" becomes "affiliating w/groups who have chapters who...." It has no end save utter illiberal collapse (and "once sought to boycott Sabra"=Nazi).

I'll bite the strong bullet and say that--where it is just limited to speech--govts shouldn't deport people for opposing the state "foundationally" (whatever that means). Beat bad ideas w/better ideas. But that's not germane here, as there's no evidence Alqasem holds such views.

The problem is that SJP is highly chapterized--different branches behave very differently. I'm familiar with SJP's "greatest" hits (e.g., sharing Nazi propaganda at Vassar). But that makes it all the *more* striking that there's virtually nothing specific to tag on Alqasam.

While I'm a long-standing hater of headlines, I don't think this one is that bad vis-a-vis the content of the article. But the analysis itself I have trouble tracking; and the "White Privilege" section (just say "Jewish privilege"--it's what is meant) is analytically hazy.
