Very cheeky opening line from Keir Starmer to David Davis in parliament: "I've done a tally, and he's threatened to resign this year more times than he's met Michel Barnier."

No10 confirms that part C of the Grieve amendment (bear with me here), which would see parliament step in to prevent a no deal Brexit, has been rejected by the Government. That's not what the rebels believed after speaking to the PM. More trouble looming.

Parliament is entitled to give you a negotiating mandate. It is entitled to require you to act within that mandate. The Government is accountable to Parliament - it is not a free agent. The Government does not represent the people - the will of the people resides in Parliament.

While the 2016 Academies and Education and Adoption Act places a statutory duty on the Council to facilitate the academy conversion, Cllrs must do everything possible to ensure The Roan remains part of the local family of schools and that its identity and ethos are protected.

That was the case I made last month in a letter to the Secretary of State for Education and it’s depressing that in their response to my letter, the DfE did not seriously engage with it.
