The towel doesn't show the later peace agreement with Egypt, in which Israel evacuated Sinai. Nor does it give a hint of the long-term occupation and apartheid that would evolve in the West Bank and Gaza. It shows the unthinking joy of victory and the intimacy of housekeeping. /4

What the photo doesn't reflect, but what seems clear enough from touching the towel, is that this was not intended exclusively for decorative purposes. It was rather designed for simple cleaning and wiping, perhaps for holding hot trays and pots. /3
