One reason Canadians are so happy is that they can easily jet to Florida beaches.

Death penalty in China and the US attracts a lot of attention from the Western European countries, not so much from other regional group though

I don't have underlying data to test hypothesis that women in Saudi Arabia are much less happy than men but I don't think country would rank so high if Saudi women consistently report low levels of happiness. Could biggest gap in Gulf countries be citizen/non-citizen happiness?

Medical & public health folks: enough with the odds ratios already! Real people don't understand them; no one who wants to communicate uses them. There's also no advantage, even in case control studies. Use risk ratios, probabilities, predictions, etc.

Very sad to hear of the death of the great sociologist of religion, DAVID MARTIN. He muddied the waters of secularisation viewed as the inevitable outcome of modern progress, and charted the rise of Pentecostal Christianity around the world. RIP David.

I've had Dr. Krueger on my thoughts all day, notably because he's taken the time to interact with me on Twitter when I'm just a regular person. If you are experiencing suicidal or self-harm thoughts, call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 or chat online

Alan Krueger is known for many accomplishments. Although I didn't study with him, one of my first survey research experiences was polling people on his behalf at a Bruce Springsteen concert (about the price they paid for their tickets).

New post I wrote with shows that not only are evangelicals particularly likely to support the President, but contrary to some arguments, the most religiously active white evangelicals (and white Catholics) are the most likely to approve of the President.
