for sure. which is why these types of studies that are then boiled down to a fairly biased cliff notes....is shitty. feels like a way to avoid empathy for others & instead "prove" they need to get over whatever they're working through.

yeah i think that's a huge missed opportunity and makes the study moot imo. feels like another attempt to prop up the "over sensitive" stereotype and suggest it's irrational for anyone to want to avoid violent or explicit content in their daily life/education

in my experience, they're meant for explicit and/or violent content. the idea that anyone will be unable to learn "healthier ways to manage potential distress" bc they don't wanna hear, for example graphic descriptions of sexual violence is....unfair.

yeah it seems it's been wildly exaggerated especially when it comes to college students. i've found the "snowflake liberal" stereotype to be quite overblown. that article you shared suggested students were in "danger" of not learning how to process anxiety bc of trigger warnings

is there a reason you don't think that could happen publicly? what if the teacher doesn't know that you personally are a survivor? i wouldn't expect my teachers to know that. personally i appreciate a quick mention at the top of a lecture or seminar so i (or others) can step out

that's exactly the purpose and practice. for some reason they've been misrepresented to suggest that people can't exist in the world unless "trigger warning" is added to any and everything. it's gotten ridiculous

i don't understand people's resistance to the idea of content warnings. that's effectively what a "trigger warning" is. when you watch a movie it comes with a rating to tell you what's in it. when you watch tv shows or listen to podcasts they also notify you of language etc
