our work on trying to understand the tissue-specificity of lncRNAs is out!! we performed an MPRA to analyze endogenous core promoter activities across lncRNAs, mRNAs, and eRNAs in 3 diverse human cell lines & find that sometimes, specificity is associated with TF motif simplicity twitter.com/biorxivpreprin…

Me too. But I think its really hard to find a number that doesn't include the investment in the Israeli "military–industrial complex"...

Not sure we're worse than Eastern Europe in absolute terms, especially since our GDP is somewhat higher. We do enjoy a US-style academic system (independent groups, tenure, little inbreeding, nomad requirements etc.) that is much (much) healthier than most/all of Europe....

That's 11 in *Life Sciences*, plus 11 in physics and 1 in social sciences, overall 23/291 = ~8%. Israel population / EU population = ~1.5%

tl;dr – "This study reveals the unexpected complexity of lncRNA function in vivo" . One thing I learned from my postdoc advisor is to never use "surprisingly" in a paper. As Dave said, many people will say "well, I'm not surprised!"

Should be a very interesting read about lncRNAs do in vivo (Hand2as=Upperhand, until recently one of the best examples of cis-acting lncRNAs): The long noncoding RNA Hand2as orchestrates heart development through regulation of precise expression of HAND2 biorxiv.org/content/early/…
