    I've been doing some changes with Bitcoin services and software I use. I'm now only using SegWit-enabled services: has free withdrawals (zero fees!) - useful as exchange (cheaper than ), and also for custody of small change for free txs. Has a mobile app. 1/10

    Bitcoin Core == anyone who contributes. Those fixated on complaining about Core tend to be non-contributors or contributors who can't handle rejection. Complainers are welcome to contribute or compete; thus far the competition leaves much to be desired.

    this is exactly it. it's like aircraft systems design, review, systematic full spectrum stress testing, and on found bugs full crash investigation. maximum testing, ego must be parked, duty to speak up, failure is not an option, fail fast thinking does not work here.

    This is so important. Bitcoin Core is a process. We're lucky to have brilliant people involved in the process, but those people are all eventually replaceable. The important thing is the culture of openness and fierce technical review and test.

    This is so important. Bitcoin Core is a process. We're lucky to have brilliant people involved in the process, but those people are all eventually replaceable. The important thing is the culture of openness and fierce technical review and test.

    This isn’t about who the lead dev is; everyone makes mistakes. It’s about the process and culture of a project. All project supporters share blame, either for missing in code review or tolerating a culture where consensus changes can be merged with little review or testing.

    If some devs seem harsh at times, remember we're talking about securing a multibillion-dollar network. If a pilot is about to crash a plane, would you expect a co-pilot to be more concerned about not hurting the pilot's feelings than about crashing?

    Interesting! This 2x bug could lead to consensus failures between implementations that happened to have different stuff lying around in memory.

    I then took a look at the miner activation code. There's another bug there. In the BlockAssembler constructor code, fWitnessSeasoned is being accessed before initialization. The result: no large block can be mined to trigger the fork.

    tl;dr: 's 2x HF just failed due to an off-by-one error, w/ the root cause being the idiotic "activation block must be >1MB" HF logic (already failed before in a similar way on testnet). Fact is, no competent devs worked on 2x, b/c competent devs know it's a dumb idea.

    Agreed. Core did not win when 2x lost Diffuse consensus power won. If core had tried to go it alone they'd lose too

    If you think forming consensus is a „battle“ where someone can „win“ you misunderstand the ultimate property of Bitcoin (change resistance).

    PSA: the B2X coin has been assigned derivation path m/44'/157' as part of BIP44 standard. Make sure you use it when creating B2X adresses.
