    Speaking of antisemitism in the UK, it can be hard to find actually well thought-out perspectives on the Labour Party antisemitism debate. Here are the places I recommend starting. 1) Labour and Antisemitism: a Crisis Misunderstood

    David Feldman - an excellent source for understanding antisemitism in the UK - drives home a point here of global importance. High-profile & high-powered spotlights on antisemitism do not equal protection from antisemitism. We need grassroots solidarity for that.

    The elephant in the room when speaking about Russia's historical claim to Ukraine: Israel is conducting a 55 year occupation of West Bank and [blockade of] Gaza, blocking Palestinians from an independent state. Historical claims-true or false-do not legitimate occupation. Period.

    ¡No pasarán!

    I have covered UK university sector disputes over cuts since 2017 and can say that I have not seen members so angry as they are today over fresh cuts to their retirement benefits. The anger has reached a new depth. This does feel like a turning point.

    🚨University vice chancellors have today chosen to steal tens of thousands of pounds from staff pensions But this dispute is far from over and on Friday our union's higher education committee will be deciding next steps - including escalating action

    UCU general secretary Jo Grady said: ‘University vice chancellors have today chosen to steal tens of thousands from the retirement income of staff. This is a deplorable attack which our members won’t take lying down. If these so-called leaders of higher education thought this was the end of this dispute, they have another thing coming. ‘UCU tried repeatedly to reach a compromise in negotiations, but employers refused even the most modest increases in contributions, instead opting to slash the benefits of staff whilst hoarding billions in reserves. UCU’s compromise proposals, which represented the best route out of this dispute, were rejected by employers and the JNC chair. ‘These cuts aren’t just an attack on our members’ retirement but also on higher education more widely. Staff know they deserve better than falling pay and massive pension cuts and many will sadly choose to leave the sector.
