Until we cover Muslims in a way that reflects how diverse & rich the community actually is, hate crimes won't stop.

  7. CNN's news alert is broken and I've only been informed of Hawaii's false ballistic missile alert only 30+ times over the last 5 minutes and I'm about to throw my phone out the window

  8. My mom would probably qualify as one of these "unwanted" girls. But she studied hard and worked even harder and now she's the one taking care of my grandparents in her own home in America. Never underestimate the resilience of a determined Indian woman.

  9. Real, flawed women have real, flawed skin. Your skin, by the way, naturally protects against diseases & foreign bodies, regulates your body temperature, prevents water loss, insulates your soft tissues, synthesizes Vitamin D, etc, etc. Give it some credit.

  13. The train stopped suddenly & a woman began flailing backwards inches away from falling on her back & onto the ground until two fellow passengers grabbed each arm & pulled her foward and back on her feet. Superhero train moments reminding me that things aren’t so bad after all.

  14. Healthcare in Syria is already non-existent. Another crucial lifeline in Idlib has been shut down after one of the few hospitals left has been bombed multiple times. Now it's closed for good. The consequences will be devastating. Civilians barely have access to aid to begin with.

  15. I wrote about the fear many Muslims just across the border had and what the Trump administration would look like for us. One year later, for American- Muslims, Islamophobia has not improved. In solidarity with our Canadian Muslim family today & everyday.

  16. Exactly one year ago today, a 27-year-old white man opened fire inside a Quebec City mosque, killing 6 people and wounding so many others. We always knew anti-Muslim sentiment existed but to witness it cumulate to murder is a devastating feeling.

I’ve spent the last few months talking to Muslims in Quebec City about what the year after the mosque shooting has been like for them. What I’ve heard has been heartbreaking.

This was West Mosul yesterday. To get to some of the homes I needed to visit meant climbing through rubble for 20-30 minutes. One man in the Old City put it this way: “When Mosul was Destroyed, Isis was finished. We were the sacrifice. We paid the price. We paid w/ our bodies.”
