The latest effort to complete C. elegans has it down to two gaps in the whole genome, but 2 > 0, and getting it down from >100 to 2 took our consortium 1.5 years. (The previous 'gap-free' reference had >100 sites with collapsed repeats due to clone-based sequencing...)
