Because we've had 13 men (arguably 14) and it's 2017. I think a female Doctor would win new audiences too and breath some fresh air into it

That only strengthens the argument that it's a male role. The year is irrelevant and the new showrunner/Doctor/companion will make it fresh.

I personally disagree. I think if
#doctor13 is female, they're rolling the dice on the longevity of the show -
The vast majority of the fans don't want the doctor to be female so they would stand to lose a massive chunk of viewing figures

I would disagree. I stopped watching years ago because it got redundant and tired to me. If it had a good female actress I might come back.

50ish years old show is now "gambling with its longevity" because... girls have cooties I guess???

They're losing roughly a million viewers a series at this point. There's no 'gambling'. This may bring new viewers (or old ones back).
