I bought my tuxedo for $60 on Amazon and had it tailored at Star Alterations in Friendswood. It's been through 4 events so far without showing any signs of wear. I also bought a suit from woot.com for around the same price. The buttons are starting to feel a little loose but that's an easy fix.

If you're going to wear a tie, make sure to use a double windsor and not a single. If you want to stand out though, go with a bow tie and some colorful socks (they're all the rage these days).
