EU upholds freeze on former Ukraine leader's assets

The EU court on Thursday upheld a decision by member states, last year, to extend the life of an asset freeze on former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych. It said that ongoing criminal investigations in Ukraine pointed to state embezzlement on a scale the magnitude of which was "to undermine the legal and institutional foundations of Ukraine". Yanukovych is also challenging a 2016 decision to extend the freeze.
