Dear Patron,
I want to thank the thousands of you who supported the Internet Archive this year.
We know not everyone can give, but those who do help make sure that everyone has free and open access to the facts, forever. Together we are building the digital libraries of the future.
Your donations are making that happen.
And there is much more to do in 2017…
With your support we are halfway to our $5M goal. The money we raised in December will go to creating a digital copy of the Internet Archive in Canada. It’s part of our pledge to keep our cultural materials safe, perpetually accessible and reader private.
We hope you will make the Internet Archive your library. I invite you to get a virtual library card at Archive.org, if you have not done so already. For those of you with an account, be sure to sign up for our announcements and newsletter! These are great ways to learn about the gems in the Archive’s collections, receive invitations to our events, and as an account holder, write a review or upload items to the Archive.
I am one of the thousands of people who donated this season to the Archive, because I know giving a small amount of time or money can inform millions. It’s a small lever to be able to move the world.
Thank you for joining me. You’re helping us to do more in 2017.

Technology: We preserve 750 million Web pages per week! We’ve saved 26 petabytes (that’s 26,000,000,000,000,000 bytes) of data. That takes a lot of servers, bandwidth and power. The cost of storing information in our data centers is a fraction of the cost of Amazon Cloud.
Staff: Most top websites employ huge staffs. We employ 150 people around the world—engineers, archivists, librarians and book scanners. Most of our staff could be making much more at a company driven by profit, but they choose to work for a nonprofit powered by a huge mission.
Projects: This year we are launching a new initiative to create a secure, private copy of our data across the border in Canada. Help us!
