That separation of church and state thingie seems to be suspended in Kentucky, which already has tax money going to theocrat grifter Ken Ham and his Ark Park After Dark. Anyway, KY Gov. Bevin is leaving nothing to chance:

The “Year of the Bible” will apparently last 24 months in Kentucky.

Gov. Matt Bevin has declared 2017 the “Year of the Bible” in Kentucky even though he proclaimed 2016 the “Year of the Bible” last December.

And if that is not an endorsement of one religion over another by the government of KY, then what is? Doing it a second year in a row? Dude has a serious lack of imagination on how to evangelize the rubes.

President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team asked the State Department for information programs and positions related to women’s and gender issues, The Washington Post reports, sparking worries from some officials…

…“It’s not clear to us what the intent is behind this request,” the official said to the Post. “The Trump team could be looking to advance gender issues and make it a priority — or you could look at it as a witch hunt.”

Yeah. I’m sure the Russian Usurper wants to advance gender issues, just like he did during his pagent-owning days when he would invade the women’s changing rooms. But truthfully: I think this has Pence’s fingerprints all over it. Theocrats do not want women to be on equal footing, what with the Fall of Adam being their fault.

Nothing good is going to come out of this.

NC Republicans Rolled LGBTQ People

Think Progress tells us:

The Charlotte City Council had agreed to a dark bargain this week, in which they repealed their LGBT nondiscrimination protections ordinance in exchange for state lawmakers repealing HB2. Governor-elect Roy Cooper brokered this agreement, proclaiming that the legislature would “repeal HB2 in full.”

It’s possible members of the Council assumed that they could repass their LGBT protections as soon as lawmakers held up their end of the bargain. But now, they will have to wait six months before they can act. That’s another six months that LGBT people in Charlotte will have no explicit legal recourse at the state or local level if they experience discrimination in employment, housing, or public accommodations.

So what happened?

UPDATE: At 6:20 p.m., the Senate approved an amendment to the repeal bill extending the six-month moratorium on local protections until the end of the 2017 legislative session. In other words, the deal got worse, because North Carolina Republicans refuse to vote for a bill that will still allow cities to protect LGBT people from discrimination.

 

And so now that the NC Republicans have done the ol’ Bait and Switch on the repeal of HB2, what have we learned?

Don’t negotiate with Republicans in good faith. You’ll get rolled every time.

Donald Trump hasn’t agreed to sell off a single cent of his business empire before he becomes president, but his son-in-law, the oft behind-the-scenes political schemer Jared Kushner, appears ready to let his New York Observer go for good.

Kushner has been quietly shopping Observer Media, fashion industry publication WWD reported Wednesday. The New York Observer newspaper, which recently became online only, was once the most respected — and feared — weekly by the same city elite it so often pilloried.

…and the kicker is that the likely buyer is friend of the Trump family: The National Inquirer:

Representatives for AMI declined to comment. Observer Media chairman and CEO Joseph Meyer did not deny the rumor, however. “As one of the fastest-growing business in all of digital media, we are constantly being approached by potential investors and partners,” Meyer said.

Fratsputin bought the rag in 2006 for $10M Ameros, if he does sell it to a billionaire pal of Hair Führer’s, I wonder how much of a profit he’ll make?

“Kellyanne Conway has been a trusted advisor and strategist who played a crucial role in my victory. She is a tireless and tenacious advocate of my agenda and has amazing insights on how to effectively communicate our message. I am pleased that she will be part of my senior team in the West Wing.”

And not to be left out, Corey Lewandowski is filling the swamp:

“Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s polarizing first campaign manager, is not joining the White House and is instead launching a political consulting firm along with former Trump adviser Barry Bennett. The move from a close Trump ally to start a lobbying firm — one that will be based just one block from the White House — further calls into question Trump’s campaign pledge that he will ‘drain the swamp’ in Washington. …

“The website of the new government affairs and political consulting firm, called Avenue Strategies, advertised Lewandowski’s and Bennett’s close ties to Trump and even their office’s physical proximity to the White House, at 1717 Pennsylvania Avenue (the same building that currently houses Trump’s transition team). Bennett told POLITICO the firm will work for any cause but not for foreign governments. ‘A lot of people have reached out to us, corporate clients, trade associations, individuals — we’re not going to limit ourselves.’”

Thus proving that draining isn’t really anything more than concentrating the swamp beasts into a small pool.
