what is this?
Polygraph is a publication that incites water cooler discussion about complex topics. We avoid long-winded essays at all costs, using code, visuals, and animation to construct a different sort of story, one that's often reader-driven, embeddable, and open-source.
FWIW, it's working. Polygraph projects have been covered by pretty much every major publication on the Internet (I challenge you to find one who hasn't!). One project was even the setup for an SNL bit (though it went unnamed).
This thing is about 6 months old. Shit will probably change. Here’s a bit about why we exist. Easiest way to get in touch: [email protected] .

All the folks who've made something on Polygraph.
JOBS
Visual Journalist. We’re hiring a full-time Visual Journalist – someone who can code, design, and write articles that are commensurate with what’s on Polygraph (or even better!). You should be awesome at data analysis (in R, Python, or SQL) and rock some design skills in Keynote/Excel/Illustrator (i.e., make a pretty chart). Expertise in D3 is highly preferred.
Freelance Contributors. If you have an awesome idea (or would like to be assigned one), we have a flat $5,000 freelance rate on a per article basis. Final deliverables include all writing, design, and code required to ship an article publicly.
Internships. We have one paid internship position for this Summer, based in NYC. This will require making something on the Internet that will likely have minimal prose. You do not have to code, but you should be comfortable making a non-writing-based thing. Please send us your portfolio. Don't have one? Make something dope with this data or any dataset from the Data Is Plural archive. We're not sure why this is happening, but 90% of applicants have been white men from ivy league schools. We encourage people of all backgrounds to apply!
