Unqualified Offerings went live on October 21, 2001 as the weblog of freelance writer and finance nerd Jim Henley, who lives in Silver Spring, MD with his family in an unprepossessing subdivision. Preoccupations include what passes for national security, politics, comic books and science fiction, health and fitness, and poetry. For the last several years, it has also been the home of the pseudonymous Thoreau, of Grylliade and other venues, a scientist specializing in optical biophysics who teaches in the California State University system. Various others have posted here, and could do so again if they felt like it.
A lapsed libertarian turned social democrat, Jim Henley has published poems in The Hudson Review, the Formalist, Poetry Ireland Review and other journals, and articles in The New Republic, The American Spectator Online, Reason (online and print), and AFF Brainwash, among others. He is revising a novel about roleplaying gamers in the late 1970s and early 1990s.
Our masthead mascot is the late, much-loved Unqualified Dog. Mrs. Offering took the picture. I cropped it and flipped it around.
