A survey recently conducted by Heavy Reading reveals that 85.8 percent of telecom respondents consider OpenStack to be essential or important to their success. The survey, commissioned by the OpenStack Foundation, explores current usage and adoption plans of communications service providers (CSPs).
More than 60 percent of telecoms are already using or currently testing new use cases with OpenStack for Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), citing benefits such as offering new services more quickly, faster data center virtualization, and lower operating and software costs. Telecoms also identified Internet of Things (40 percent in production) and 5G (30 percent in production) as major use cases.
