It did not provide checks and balances for a one party state where the ruling party controls all 3 branches.
The Constitution anticipates a President like this. It does not anticipate a Congress so indifferent to a President like this.

Well, it did actually - regular elections. But voter suppression and gerrymandering has made it so GOP in Congress is afraid to do its job.

Those things have given too much power to GOP's nuttiest base, so the congressional check is broken.

So too SC. Lower court rulings will be overturned again and again.

I'm not thinking much of our system these days. It's permanently broken & unfixable, given power invested in status quo. Voting won't do it.

The problem is, if it's unfixable, there is NO democratic system that could replace it (and no non-violent mechanism to do so).

It still can be fixed -- but only by a tremendous increase in engagement and voter education.

Dems lost about 25 governor races. Gerrymandering is a factor, also low turn outs at local races. We have to get ppl to vote on local elects

Dems have won State Senator seats in a number of very red states recently, making those states slightly nervous. Governors avoiding Trump.
