Desktop Client coming to Google Allo
Nick Fox (the Google VP of Communications) released a #SneakPeek screenshot of a Google Allo desktop client on Twitter [1]. Still in early development according to him, but something I'm definitely looking forward to!

Between this and +Roman Nurik's Android Icon Animator [1], the design/developer hybrid is in such a better place. Really cool to put them through their paces (even if you don't have that much design experience!)

Introducing ShapeShifter v0.1
For the past couple of months I've been working on a web app that simplifies the process of creating SVG-based path morphing animations.
Try it out and let me know if you have any trouble. If you don't have your own SVGs to use, click on that three-dotted icon in the top right corner and play around with one of the demos. :)
I'm especially interested in how I can make this tool more useful for UXers (who are usually the ones creating SVGs in the first place)... so please send me feedback! I'm also interested in supporting other export formats other than AnimatedVectorDrawable... send me feature requests!

+Nick Butcher, as always, does a fantastic job of talking about design in a really approachable way. Whether you are a designer, developer, something in between, or even a product manager, I think you'd get quite a bit out of these slides.
Here are some tips to help better understand and work with material design. Be sure to check the ℹ️ field for notes/commentary.
Unfortunately the talk wasn't recorded.

I really like this new layout on YouTube, if just for the fact that videos actually fill the width of the window in theater mode. Finally I no longer need to slightly zoom in all of YouTube just to make a larger video in window.
It really makes a difference once you try it out. Speaking of which, here are the instructions on enabling it via cookie modification: https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/4yin6w/force_the_new_material_layout_when_logged_in/

Do you have it?

That time of the year already! One thing that I like about the I/O organizers is that they really take the feedback on the previous year into account when planning I/O - I suspect year 2 at Shoreline will be a considerable improvement over the first year in the space :)

Fire Emblem on Android: capturing the core gameplay
I was a big fan of Fire Emblem since they first came out, serving up a really great turn based strategy experience. I'm really happy they managed to capture that same feeling with Fire Emblem Heroes. Google Play Games achievements is certainly welcome and they do have cloud backup via a Nintendo account.

So my next 4 weeks of Soylent has arrived. I still love the 'Need more now?' button for resetting the monthly subscription and getting 2 day shipping of your order. I think I end up using it almost every time :-P

Good to see that Tesla continues to invest in their Android app! Fingerprint auth is a really nice touch (pun intended).
Yeah, I want a Model S.
