The Tory Cabinet is in chaos. Their divisions & incompetence on Brexit put jobs & the economy at risk. Only Labour would negotiate a new UK-EU customs union to ensure: ✔ No tariffs with Europe ✔ Support for our manufacturing industry ✔ No hard border in Northern Ireland

In today’s debate on public legal education: awareness crucial but people have to be able to enforce their legal rights in our courts, regardless of wealth. With swingeing legal aid cuts, and their record on employment tribunal fees, the Tories have restricted access to justice.

Far too often in this country politics acts as a dam, holding back justice rather than helping it to flow. Race and class and power are at the heart of this. My speech at the Grenfell Inquiry debate in parliament yesterday:

I’m not obsessed with Parliamentary procedure and convention and the like but I do feel it is appalling and telling that Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson walked out of the House of Commons Chamber rather than answer Emily Thornberry’s Urgent Question on the killings in Gaza.

This is why criminal barristers are taking strike action. The government must urgently reach a consensus with barristers - not cause yet more division. If they fail it will be the ordinary people who rely on our courts to deliver justice who lose out.

The killing of dozens of unarmed protesters and wounding of many more by Israeli forces in Gaza, on the day President Trump moved the US embassy to Jerusalem, is an outrage that demands not just international condemnation, but action.

Richard Burgon: "The Grenfell Inquiry has got off to a rocky start." He says survivors should not have had to campaign, march and write petitions while still in shock, just to achieve representation on the inquiry.

This vicious and utterly avoidable slaughter must stop, and the Netanyahu government must be held to account for their actions. My statement on the killings in Gaza today:

On my way to the Grenfell rally outside Parliament, before speaking in the debate on the Inquiry. Today's powerful front page is a stark reminder of why we need Justice for Grenfell.
