This page lists proposed article mergers as a supplement to the merge categories and templates; it is an index of ongoing discussions of possible mergers, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

How to propose a merger[edit]

There are three types of mergers on Wikipedia:

  1. mergers that are so obviously necessary and appropriate that no one is expected to object;
  2. mergers that would benefit from discussion with the other editors at the affected articles' Talk page about whether and/or how to perform the merge; and
  3. mergers that are either controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, and therefore need assistance from uninvolved editors in determining whether to merge the pages.

If the pages that you would like to merge fall into the type 1 group, then it is not necessary to propose a merger at all. You should boldly do the merger now, without formally proposing it. (In the event that someone unexpectedly objects, then the merger can be undone easily, and you can formally propose the merger for discussion at that time.)

If the merge falls into the type 2 group or type 3 group, or a formal discussion is needed or wanted, then proposing a merger can be done in three steps (as the proposer, you should still be willing to carry-out the merger in a type 2 article):

  • Step 1: Create a place for discussion. Go to the Talk Page (also known as the discussion page) of the TARGET ARTICLE (the one you want to merge to) and create a section (eg: "Merger proposal") to discuss the merger. If there's already a discussion on the talk page regarding the merger, you can omit this step. Whether the discussion is new or old, make sure the discussion section names all articles involved and links to them. The section name can be anything that includes the word merge (for example ==Merger discussion==).
  • Step 2: Put one of the merger tags at the top of the articles you wish to be merged. The templates {{Merge from}} and {{Merge to}}, or {{merge}} are the most common ones. Remember to make sure that the Discuss link in each tag points to the section you've created in step 1 (this is to prevent having two separate discussions on different talk pages).
  • Step 3: If the proposed merge is controversial or potentially difficult to carry out, follow the directions under #Requests for merge assistance and feedback to add it to the list.

Many bold mergers are performed each day. Of the mergers that are formally proposed, about 95% fall into the second category, of wanting discussion or practical assistance from the editors at the articles that are to be merged. The remaining 5% of formally proposed mergers are on contentious topics or are controversial for one reason or another. Only this small fraction is listed at the bottom of this page as instructed in step #3.

Requests for merge assistance and feedback[edit]

If you need outside feedback regarding mergers that are either tricky or of a controversial nature, please do the following:

  • Tag the article as shown above
  • Create a discussion as shown above
  • Notify the talk page of the appropriate Wikiproject to get knowledgeable people to comment on it. (To find out which Wikiproject the page is associated with, check the associated talk page. It should be tagged with a template, such as Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey.)
  • If there is consensus to merge, but the merge is difficult, contact Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge for assistance.

  • Cut-and-paste move fixes: If you have merged an article by this method, then you need to request page histories to be merged; list them at requests for history merge. Please DO NOT perform further moves by cut and paste.

Merge Ahmad Wais Afzali and Mohammed Wali Zazi into 2009 New York City Subway and United Kingdom plot. Neither men have any claims of notability other their assistance in the attack plot and the articles have barely any information beyond that. 69.118.35.84 (talk) 01:15, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Merge The 50% Rule into and as a section in Faith school as it is solely to do with legislation affecting such schools in the UK since 2010, and would be more useful in the context of the main page. It has no utility apart from this context. It is not about 50% rules in general.Chemical Engineer (talk) 16:14, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Merge Retired MTA Regional Bus Operations demonstration bus fleet into Retired MTA Regional Bus Operations bus fleet. Both articles talk about the same subject, retired MTA buses, only one is for demonstration buses while the other is for those that ran in service. Awaiting consensus[edit]

After all involved articles are tagged for merger discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age or disagreement. All merger comments and discussions should be directed to the Discussion subsection of the targeted articles' talk page, not here. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals.

Merge Voting method into voting, leaving a dab page at voting method that would point to electoral system and voting. Outside wikipedia, the term "voting method" usually refers to the entities called electoral systems here on wp; and the separate content now at voting method already has a good duplicate home at voting. Merge Eirenaeus Philalethes into George Starkey. Philalethes is a pseudonym of Starkey, and the Philalethes article is (if you ignore the lengthy list of his works) just a stub that says exactly this. There are a few small things that aren't found in the Starkey article that would be worth bringing over, but I'm not sure what is supposed to be done with the authority control templates in a merge. -165.234.252.11 (talk) 16:43, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Merge Founding of the German Empire into Unification of Germany. Former is recently translated from the German article, but a longer and mature FA already exists at the latter about the same topic.

Merge Draco (military standard) into Dacian Draco. Both articles cover the exact same material, with Dacian Draco being more in-depth than the other. I find it redundant to let both articles exist. I propose that we should incorporate the Roman information covered in Draco (military standard) into this article and turn it into a redirect. The Verified Cactus 100% 23:46, 2 October 2017 (UTC)

Merge Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball team plane crash into Oklahoma State Cowboys basketball. Merge Catalonia's declaration of independence Catalan declaration of independence and Catalonia Declaration of Independence should be merged into Catalan Declaration of Independence, as both articles cover the exact same material. Also, the proposed merger destination follows the style of other declarations of independence, as can be seen in many articles on the page Declaration of independence.

Merger of Quia timet injunctions in English law into Quia timet. Quia timet injunctions in English law only had 1 edit while Quia timet seems only focus on English common law.

Merge Grand Beach (Manitoba) into Grand Beach Provincial Park. Grand Beach (Manitoba) can refer to the geographical feature of the beach itself, or the townsite of cottages as marked on the provincial map, both of which are within the boundaries of Grand Beach Provincial Park. Merge Sophie Reade to Big Brother 10 (UK) per WP:ONEEVENT. She has not done anything outside of the reality show and there is nothing in her article beyond that.

Merge Michigan Womyn's Music Festival and transgender people to Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. A split article was made due to an excessive amount of information added during the height of the transgender controversy in 2014, but since then, many trivial, POV information from the split article has been removed to the point where it is no needed and whatever content is left can be added back to the main article.

Merge the disambiguation page The Nobodies into the disambiguation Nobody because most of the entries are listed on both pages already and the TV show Nobodies (TV series) doesn't fit into either category at the moment so it is only listed under Nobody even though it is closer to The Nobodies (but no one knows that that page even exists). Merge Jim Beam into Beam Suntory and redirect. Jim Beam is ostensibly about that brand of whiskey, but the vast bulk of the article is about the corporate history of the company. That would more properly go under the company itself, Beam Suntory. This is how it's done for the brand and the company Jack Daniels, for example.

Merge Snoopy loop into Rubber band #Ranger bands and redirect. One is an alias for the other and the small article (a sub-set of the larger one) is very unlikely to ever be expanded.

Merge Dylann Roof into Charleston church shooting. Implicit in this proposal is the assertion that Dylann Roof does not merit his own biographical wikipedia page. Hmcst1 (talk) 17:05, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Merge Budapest Symphony Orchestra into Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra is the more accurate name of the orchestra, as the Budapest Symphony Orchestra refers to a commercial arm of the ensemble and is secondary to the orchestra's primary work for Hungarian Radio. Merge Kurdish recognition of the Armenian genocide into the Kurdish position section of the Armenian Genocide recognition article. This subject area is generally controversial due to competing nationalist narratives, but I don't see that there's a case for a standalone article specific to Kurdish recognition. Merge Microsoft Surface phone into Microsoft Surface. I created the Microsoft Surface phone article but since its being debated for deletion, some have proposed for it to be merged into the main Microsoft Surface article and I agree with them since although Microsoft had a recent hardware announcement they still have not yet announced the upcoming or so called surface phone. The Surface phone has had many references but not enough for the Surface phone to have its own article. Once the Phone has been announced officially by Microsoft I'll support the article to be recreated but for now I suspect the best course of action is to merge both articles together.
