Q. What does Mad as Hell, the Betoota Advocate and a small Macedonian Village have in common?
A. They are all considered to be part of the Fake News phenomenon.
Have you ever seen a post on your news feed and it's got you so so worked up you have either passed it on or made a comment about it, then later realised that the post was a fake? Don't be too ashamed, you are not alone. It happens to us all.
Unfortunately fake news is getting more prevalent and we seem to be hopeless at spotting it util to late. I have been taken in by fake news, especially articles from Sites like the Onion. It wasn't that long ago when that site would to catch me unawares. I'd like to think that I'm getting better at spotting it, however It can be real hard to tell sometimes.
There are ways of spotting it.
FactCHeck.com have few strategies you can use. they are:
Consider the source
Read beyond the headline,
Check the Author,
Determine the support,
Check the date,
Ask if this is "some kind of joke",
Consult the experts and
Check your biases.
