Google's artificial intelligence bot thinks the purpose of life is 'to live forever'
This week, Google released a research paper chronicling one of its latest forays into artificial intelligence.

Researchers at the company programmed an advanced type of “chatbot” that learns how to respond in conversations based on examples from a training set of dialogue.

And the bot doesn’t just answer by spitting out canned answers in response to certain words; it can form new answers from new questions.

This means Google’s researchers could get a little creative with it, and they certainly did — they asked the bot everything from boring IT questions to the meaning of life.

Here's what Australians are doing while surfing the internet at home
For many Australians, having a fast, reliable internet connection at home is just as important as having electricity or hot water.

According to Deloitte’s Connected Continent report, commissioned by Google and released today, the estimated value to the Australian economy which accrues to households from accessing the internet was $75 billion in 2013-14 - a 20% jump over two years.

One click travel by 2020 via devices not even invented
The year 2020 doesn’t seem that far away, so findings in a recent study on future travel trends make for an interesting read in terms of people’s expectations.

A quarterly trends report reveals that 37% of US adults expect one-click travel plans in five  years time. Almost 40%  also expect computers to book, by default, a traveller’s favourite place to sit on a plane as well as his or her car-hire and hotel preferences. Computers will also know who they want to travel with according to 20% of respondents.

8 ways Google is tying Chrome OS and Android together
Fear not, true believers in the idea of different operating systems for different types of devices: Even though Chrome's engineering head has taken over Android's technical aspects, Google isn't likely to forcibly combine Chrome OS and Android into a Windows 8-style Frankenstein’s monster any time soon. That said, Chrome OS and Android have been forging closer ties over the past months, evolving into two highly complementary operating systems.
