not to mention excluding the ones not privileged enough to be able to dedicate resources to baseless “interview prep”

at the expense of excluding the ones that prioritize learning / building real software and solving real problems

which just serves to further perpetuate students memorizing abstract bullshit they’ll only ever use to “get a job”

meanwhile these myopic interview tactics continue to screen for “potential” by equating abstract story problems to “experience”

young people taking these “L’s” everyday, waiting for someone to “take a chance” on them.

not a full time job. not a tech leadership role (something i’ve held at a number of companies including twitter, medium,)… but an Internship

ON GOD, i just failed the intern “take home” test for @dropbox… this is given BEFORE in person interviews.

just has me hella sad today.

and what’s wild is these exact companies constantly spamming me, wouldn’t let me (an english major) past the first round of these “quizzes”

i personally am total shit at math. and i hate puzzles. if you’ve worked w me on anything, you know this is true.

give me someone who can (and loves to) learn/build something over someone who’s memorized the 20 best ways to sort a linked list. every time

meanwhile, really creative, smart, talented people continue to be excluded… an y’all are just like “why do we have a diversity problem” smh

(also that “weed out” term is some bullshit)

in this perverse, self perpetuating horror show, all you see are funnels designed to “weed out” anyone w/o a traditional cs degree.

as someone trying help code2040 students land meaningful internships… the process is SO entirely fucked. its sad. this is not news. but damn
