Thank you so much for posting this here! I have not seen this footage before. A bit of personal history-- I recently located two surviving D-Day paratroopers from the company a great uncle (once or twice removed) served in. We knew he died on D-Day but did not know the circumstances of his death. One of his fellow paratroopers did not remember him except for seeing him on exercises and in the chow hall. The second remembered he heard that he was killed in small arms fire and roughly where that happened. I am now budgeting for a trip to the cemetery in Normandy where he is buried.

It's admirable that you put in the time to find and speak to the vets who served with him. You're going to love Normandy. It is such a beautiful and special place. You will get much more out of it the more you know about the unit he served with.

The good news is, since he was in the airborne, there are countless historians and collectors who have devoted their lives to studying the details of D-Day down to the individual paratrooper.

There are airborne forums where you can ask if anybody is familiar with his name or has any reports, letters, diaries or interviews from his unit.

Also, the National Archives is incredible. You can send a request for information about him and a researcher there will send you a report. It can take a while to hear back, but it's free and a service more people should know about.

If you have any questions. I'm happy to help.

National Archives

Is there a British version of this anyone know? There is a family legend that one of my great uncles was in the parachute regiment and was killed parachuting in to Normandy on D-day but when I tried looking him up on google I mostly found "sign up for your monthly subscription to access..blaa blaa blaa" sites and I don't know what one (if any) are worth it. I did find that he was in the Dorsetshire regiment first battalion and his date of death which sort of fits. I also found out the parachute regiments were made up of soldiers from other regiments but it's all very confusing:( and since I am not next of kin I can't get his army records:( Is there a site or subreddit you would recommend?

Hmm...I'm not sure if there's a British version of the national archives but it wouldn't surprise me if there is. A good place to start would be the Trigger Time forum run by Mark Bando. Somebody there may be able to lead you in the right direction. Good luck!

I have been a Zenfolio customer for many years now. I load wedding photographs into galleries and have a price list in which I can choose which products I want to offer and how much profit I would like to make off each product.

I offer several album options, each with fairly substantial profits due to the work that goes into answering a client's many questions about the process of choosing and making an album. I got an email today that a client of mine ordered an album. I thought, "Great!". I then went to my orders page and saw that the client spent nearly $1,000 on an album that was not from my price list and that I made only a small percentage of that while Zenfolio pocketed the rest.

Here's what happened. Apparently a few months ago Zenfolio added a tiny little button to the top of MY website that says "make an album". I never clicked this button because I figured it was for clients to design one of the albums that I offer for sale. Nope, it is Zenfolio's way of offering THEIR albums to MY clients on MY website. In short, Zenfolio is competing with their own customers for album sales. It was done in the sneakiest way possible as well. Apparently an email was sent about it and the default setting was "opt-in" meaning that anybody who didn't get the email and make an effort to opt out of the new system would be automatically opted in, with or without their knowledge/consent.

The customer service agent at Zenfolio said "Please note this was in no way meant to take any business away from you and do agree it should have by default been opt-out. However for business reasons, our CEO chose to have this as an opt-in..."

I then kindly explained that if it was not meant to take business away from me, then they should transfer the profits to my account, which of course they did not do. I immediately canceled my account and will be moving to one of their competitors. Can anybody recommend an honest competitor who wouldn't do something sneaky like this?
