Social justice is about taking that empathy, that nuance of understanding different human needs, and using it to fix our institutions.

I'm fine with that. As long as they also know precisely how many light years away the fucking meteor over San Francisco was yesterday. I'm just saying pedantry will be met with pettiness. 😏😏😏

We got to watch the Mars landing in first person view from millions of light years away. But nobody gave us a heads up on a meteor that could be seen with the naked eye over a major city? Come on science nerds. This is not a good look.

I've said this before. It feels like the Democratic party's only consistent identity is "we aren't Republicans". And this isn't just about Trump. This was true though Obama's presidency. I'm not smart enough to do the political analysis. But this is what I'm seeing.

If I was putting it another way, a political party is about centralizing power in order to win elections. But the foundation of the political structure still comes from the base of the voting consituency. Today, Dems have no idea who that is.

To be absolutely clear, I'm not suggesting that's an entirely bad things. I'm in the camp that says you build coalitions by building trust and solidarity. And a lot of factions in the Democratic party still don't know what true solidarity looks like.

No offense to either of these folks. But this is a good illustration of the state of the Democratic party. There is no base. Nobody knows what we stand for and there's no commitment coalition building.

It's weird because I think a lot about how engineers have so much to learn these days. But somehow they always pick of DRY really early and misinterpret it's lessons forever.

I was talking to about my career towards being an “executive”. The person who has to make tough final decisions. I’ve only gotten partial exposure to that so far. I’m still confused about the series of events that lead to sending this email.

This is what happens when media types worry more about the "slippery slope" of boycotts than the slippery slope of giving racism a platform.

The nitpick of people like Nate Silver us not the harm being done. It's that the "wrong" people currently have the power to do harm.

I gave a different read. Silver is used to a world that respects authority and power. The fear of the average white man is that if any authority can be challenged by people who he deems to have less power, then the whole power structure is at risk. Including his part.

I know we live in a time and place where we’re supposed to treat billionaires like Zuckerberg like geniuses but I feel like “fucking up constantly” and “getting caught fucking up constantly” and “accidentally almost collapsing society” are the qualities of a huge dumbass

Meanwhile, all these people are in his mentions talking about how he's "smarter than this". Y'all need to stop giving these dudes the benefit of the doubt. They're not here to fight. He's fearful af and he's not gonna save us. All he does is keep score.

If all these things were true in a simplistic way, we would already be entirely screwed. The right has been way more effective at mobilizing and creating noise about any issue. Nate Silver should know this quite well. Again, this is fear, not reason.

You also see why people fall victim to "both sides" rhetoric. He sees advertisers as dumb pawns in this battle. He assumes they can be manipulated to support or reject any message regardless of context. And he assumes it only takes a loud minority to do so.
