    Smell test: if someone talks about "x fees to move y BTC" and not "x fees for a z byte transaction", they're making a political pitch, not a technical argument.

    Fellow Bitcoiners, are you ever going to realize how problematic these fees are getting? Avg fees now over $40 per tx. A year ago avg fee was $4. A year prior, $0.40. Growing faster than price, and exponentially with usage. We just spent $4800 to move 15 BTC in one TX.

    Gonna explain this again, since I guess you need a memory refresh: 1/ CEOs of major wallets were freaking out on high fees, said users were upset, couple threatened a malicious hard fork BEFORE 2x because THINGS WERE THAT URGENT. Claimed Core was holding them back, blah, blah

    Perhaps Andreas could have been a millionaire today, but instead he chose to be a guide and teacher for thousands of Bitcoin beginners, myself included. I’m happy to chip in $5 a month so he can reach thousands more.

    Andreas is one of the most eloquent speakers on the topic of Bitcoin, but if he had invested even $300 in bitcoin back in 2012, he’d be a millionaire today.

    Great write up on the Segwit2X codebase challenges Testing, reviewing, and modifying this codebase is certainly no easy task. Thankful to those who are working on it.

    We have 1 engineer full time on open source at Coinbase right now, but we'd ideally have ~5 more. Totally undirected - you can work on any digital currency protocol you'd like. You do have to pass our engineering interview though. Please send us a note!

    Really ? That's what you learned? How about these lessons: 1. Changes to Bitcoin require consensus from the users and can't be dictated by a closed group. 2. No-one should run untested and unreviewed code from a one-man development team.

    This is so important. Bitcoin Core is a process. We're lucky to have brilliant people involved in the process, but those people are all eventually replaceable. The important thing is the culture of openness and fierce technical review and test.

    This isn’t about who the lead dev is; everyone makes mistakes. It’s about the process and culture of a project. All project supporters share blame, either for missing in code review or tolerating a culture where consensus changes can be merged with little review or testing.

    Can someone with better knowledge of C++ clarify this for me? Jeff claimed on btc1 slack that this would default to false, but I'm not sure that's actually the case.

    In case it's not clear: no-one should run btc1 code. It is untested, unreviewed, buggy and can only serve to disrupt and confuse the Bitcoin network.

    There are more bugs in the btc1 code. I can't in good conscience reveal what those are, since I have no intention of helping create a disruptive hard fork.

    Trying to create a SegWit2x fork at this point, when it's clear that it doesn't have consensus, is simply sowing discord and confusion.
