    I finally felt how true this is in a real, tangible way this year. We don't make better software by having a rockstar coder, and I don't want to kill myself trying to be that rockstar. Great *teams* make great software. Putting my effort toward making my team better in 2019.

    The reason I *love* 's framing here is that ultimately, _behaviors_ are what cause harm or create benefits. Beliefs, values, etc. all ultimately manifest in behaviors; but the actions that emerge from a set of values or beliefs can vary wildly.

    This post by contrasting _behaviors_ with _values_ intersects with a conversation we had recently with about how changing peoples _habits_ is the way we create psychological safety in our teams:

    And yeah, you NEED facts to reconstruct what happened! So try things like, * don't quit abruptly once you've unearthed the "root" fact. Keep digging: "what else might have contributed?" * stop saying the phrase "root cause" during investigations; say "contributing factors"

    I think every company (too big or old to conform to the latest slickest platform) needs their own software delivery. Improvements need to work at the organization level, not the repo level. Hence, , so it doesn't take whole dedicated teams.
